Our general peering policy is open, however in the interest of being able to deliver the best network possible without too much overhead, we do have some policies in place.

We do set up both IPv4 and IPv6 peering sessions, but over the IPv6 session, you might not see us announce any routes for the time being. We do want the sessions to be set up so in case IPv6 starts making up a larger portion of our network volume, we can start announcing routes without then having to set up all the sessions.

Public peering

On internet exchanges, we prefer to use route-servers, except for larger amounts of traffic. If traffic exceeds 2Gbps P95 in either direction, setting up a direct session could be desirable.

Private peering

In the interest of improving performance, decentralizing the internet and increasing customer experience, there is also a possibility to set up a PNI.

At the moment, PNIs are mostly reserved for high volume interconnects. This means we are interested in setting up a PNI when more than 10Gpbs P95 is reached between us, and the potential peer. For PNIs we use direct cross connects with 100G-LR4 (802.3ba compliant) media. This does not mean networks exchanging less than the aforementioned will not be considered for a PNI.

A PNI can be set up in any of the following (shared) facilities:

  • Nikhef Housing (Science Park 105, Amsterdam)
  • Iron Mountain AMS-1 (J.W. Lucasweg 35, Haarlem)
  • Interxion AMS-3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 (Amsterdam, Schiphol Area)
  • Other locations might be possible after reviewing the conditions.
